The Spirit of South Carolina is reminiscent of the circa 1870's pilot schooner Frances Elizabeth, which was originally built by the Samuel J. Pregnall & Bros. Shipyard on Charleston Harbor. The new vessel will be licensed as both a small passenger carrying vessel and a sailing school ship on ocean routes.
